Type 8B is the main Barbican flat type found on the ‘B’ side of Shakespeare Tower. Type 8B has a living room, a dining room, three bedrooms, (5 rooms) a kitchen, a utility room, a bathroom with WC, a shower room with WC.
What distinguishes Type 8B is that the living room opens onto a triangular balcony area. The other Barbican flat types in Shakespeare Tower have rectangular balcony areas. Unlike the 8A and 8C flat types, the entrance to a Type 1B flat is at the bedroom 1 end of the flat (furthest from the living room).
Types 1A, 1B and 1C, which are the standard types of flats in Cromwell and Lauderdale Towers, are ‘four bedroom’ flats (although in 1A’s case the fourth bedroom is called a ‘dining room’ ). 8A, 8B and 8C flats in Shakespeare Tower, on the other hand, are ‘three bedroom’ flats. But the Shakespeare Tower flats have a larger living room and a larger third bedroom than their corresponding 1A, 1B and 1C counterparts in Cromwell and Lauderdale Towers.
Type 8B flats have rooms along the east-facing side of Shakespeare Tower, and balconies looking north.
