Type 107 Barbican Estate flats

Type 107 is a three-storey, two-bedroom, penthouse maisonette with storerooms in Willoughby House. You enter the flat off the building’s central corridor and you take steps up to the living area. The kitchen is a large corner of the living room. There is a half flight of stairs up to the internal corridor leading to the bedroom. At the top of these stairs is a small ‘store room’ or ante-room leading to the separate WC. Further along the corridor is another ‘store room’ nearly as big as a bedroom. It’s called a ‘store room’ because it doesn’t have windows. So you aren’t meant to use it as living space. Another half flight leads to a landing with the bathroom and bedroom off it. Finally, there is a flight up to a studio/second bedroom at the top.

There is one Type 107 maisonette in Willoughby House.

There are 11 different types of penthouse maisonette in Willoughby House – far more than in any other house – and most are very similar. They are Types 103, 104, 105, 106, 107, 108, 109110, 111, 112 and 115. Type 107 is similar in layout to Type 99, but with the extra top room.
