Type 58 is a one-bedroom flat. In most floors of Defoe House, Andrewes House and Speed House the flats are Type 20 and Type 21, which interlock round the lift and stairs. Every so often along a block there has to be a fire exit corridor right to the front and back balconies. Those take up part of what would be the Type 21 extra bedroom and the Type 20 study. The flats next to such corridors are Type 57 and Type 58. Type 58 is a slightly smaller version of Type 20. It has one bedroom and a living room (2 rooms). The Type 58 gets some extra window frontage in the living room but not quite enough to really call the truncated ‘L’ a study, as you can with a Type 20. It also has a slightly larger bedroom than a Type 20.
