Type 120 is a two-bedroom mews house in Brandon Mews. The front door is on a corridor down steps from the Willoughby highwalk. From here you enter the top floor of the house. Immediately inside the front door on the right is a bedroom with a large window (facing onto the car park area below the highwalk). This is created out of the space between the entrance halls of Types 118 and 120. Then there is a WC, and then the stairs down to the living area. Carrying on along the upper floor, there is the bathroom and then the main bedroom looking west over the lake or Speed Garden.
Taking the stairs down to the lower floor, the kitchen is at the back behind the stairs. The large living area is at the front. The living area is split level. About a third of the room, nearest the windows, is down a few steps. There is a store room below the living room.
Brandon Mews has 26 houses made up of four similar designs: Type 118, Type 119, Type 120 and Type 121.
Type 118 and Type 120 houses are always paired. Type 120 has an extra bedroom which is taken from the space between Type 118’s and 120’s come in pairs. There are seven such pairs of houses – five pairs at the Andrewes House end of the terrace and two at the Speed House end.
Type 119 and Type 121 also always come in pairs, with Type 121 having the extra bedroom. There are six such pairs of houses – all roughly in the middle of the terrace and overlooking the lake rather than Speed Garden.
Differences between the pairs is that Types 118/120 have a split level living area with a few steps down to the windows, and a normal internal staircase near the kitchen; Types 119/121 have no change in level in the living room, and they have a spiral staircase towards the centre of the living area.
