Type 72 is a one-bedroom penthouse flat. At the Barbican Centre end of Gilbert House, there are two end penthouse flats on the top floor. These are Type 72s.

The Type 72 penthouses are squeezed into a slightly unusual shape by the larger than usual space for the entrance, stairs and lift unit. There is only space for a living area and a bedroom. There is also a roof patio for each flat.
