The Type 8.6 flat is the biggest of the studio flats on the 8th floor. There is only one such flat because it is a unique shape which is moulded to the shape of the external corridor. Instead of its usual curve, the corridor takes an abrupt turn towards the eastern staircase and then turns back at a right angle, endowing the flat with a large triangular bathroom. This removal of the bathroom from its usual space allows the kitchen to be moved back towards the main entrance immediately off the hall. That leaves a large rectangular space right up to the windows overlooking the Sculpture Court, which the developers designated as a living dining and sleeping space. (In most studios the kitchen takes a big chunk of this rectangle.)

Type 8.6 is almost identical to the Type 7.6 flat on the 7th floor.
