Flat Details
LOWER GROUND 2 FLOOR – 1 BEDROOM
The numbering is confusing. ‘LG22’means this is flat 2 on floor ‘LG2’. ‘LG2’ is short for ‘Lower Ground level 2’ – the second or lowest below-ground level.
LG22 runs along about half (the southern half) of the western side of the building. There is one other flat on this floor, LG21, which more or less mirrors it on the eastern side of the building. The flats only run half way along the building because the front of Blake Tower contains storerooms: a parcel store, a baggage store, a cycle store and a refuse store.
Entering the flat off the entrance lobby, you are in a corridor leading left to the bathroom and then the bedroom. The bathroom has a combined bath and shower. The bedroom backs onto the ‘winter garden’, an enclosed courtyard and garden area at the Barbican-facing end of the building. Natural light for the bedroom comes through the winter garden. Near the entrance door of the flat there is a doorway off the corridor into the long, living / dining / kitchen area of the flat, which takes up the entire west face of the flat. The kitchen / dining area is the first part. This leads through to the living area at the end which has a window onto the winter garden. There is obscured glass along most of the west wall where the flat faces the well between Blake Tower and the base of the ground pedestrian area.
LG22 is virtually indentical in size and layout to LG13 immediately above it.
