Type Pen 2 Blake Tower, Barbican Estate

Type Pen 2 is a three-bedroom duplex (two storey) flat type found on floors 16-17 of Blake Tower. It is the layout for Flat No. 162, which is a duplex (two storey) flat on the 16th and 17th floors. It is a virtually identical mirror of Type Pen 1 (Flat 161), which sits next to it on the other side of the entrance lobby.

Entry level. The entrance to flat 162 is in the middle of the flat on the 16th floor, just in front of the lifts. Inside there is a corridor running in either direction. Turning right, you pass a utility room and then a bathroom on your right. Bedroom 2 is next on the left and it has an ensuite bathroom with a bath and separate shower. At the end of the corridor is bedroom 3, which has corner windows facing north and east. There is an external terrace on to which both bedrooms 2 and 3 have access. If you take the left hand part of the corridor from the flat’s entrance, you reach a lobby area with the kitchen on the right. Straight ahead is the living/dining area. This also has access onto an external patio area. It has windows facing wast and a window facing south past the external stairs. Back to the flat entrance again, immediately opposite it are the stairs to the upper part of the flat on the 17th floor.

Upper level. On the right at the top of the stairs is another living area with access onto a large terrace. On the left at the top of the stairs is the master bedroom with its ensuite bathroom. This combined room has access onto a slightly smaller terrace.

Please note that these plans are the wrong way round. All other plans show south (the Barbican Estate) at the top and north (the Golden Lane Estate) at the bottom, but these plans reverse the process. The big external stairs you see at the bottom of each plan are in fact nearest the Barbican estate.
