Type 36 Barbican Estate flats

Type 36 is a three-bedroom, penthouse duplex. The lower floor is basically rectangular in shape. There’s a bedroom on one side, next to an L-shaped living area, which widens out to take in all the window frontage. The portion in front of the kitchen was designated as a dining area by the Barbican when they designed them. The central part of the living area is double height. Stairs at the back lead to a landing which looks down onto the living area, with a bedroom on one side and a bedroom and a second bathroom on the other side. In addition there’s a roof patio.

In each case, Type 36 flats are surrounded by almost identical Type 35s. (In fact, I can’t see any difference.)

There is just one flat of Type 36 in each of Gilbert House, Mountjoy House and Seddon House, the east-west-facing terraces.

Please note. These plans are illustrations and approximations only. They illustrate types of flats as built. They don’t show the actual demise, size, layout or dimensions of any particular flat. Individual flats may differ, or have been altered.
