Barbican YMCA
This website has been in existence since 2001, but it was only this year that I thought to include the Barbican YMCA. For some weird reason I classed it as part of the Golden Lane estate., even though it's clearly on our side of the dividing road, and it is built in Barbican concrete. In many ways it is surely one of the high points of Barbican architecture, with its marvellous lattice of stairs running up the outside of the building. It is hulking and delicate at the same time. I love that building. I expect it leaks though.
If you want to join a gym, and you don't want to pay Virgin prices, this is probably the place to go.
