Barbican Estate Office

Services are managed by the Barbican Estate Office which is a department of the Corporation. The Estate Office has offices at Lauderdale Place with a ground floor reception. The Estate Office is your contact for all landlord and estate management services.

Contact details: Barbican Estate Office, 3 Lauderdale Place, Barbican, London, EC2Y 8EN. General Enquiries: 020 7029 3953.

Their website is www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/beo and this contains a lot of very useful information, such as guidelines on alterations you can and cannot make to your flat without listed building consent, and details of the likely service charges for the next year for each block. Unfortunately a lot of it is also terribly out of date, such as guidance on what to do when the TV systems changes to Sky (which happened a couple of years ago), and the results of a ballot in 2003.

The Estate Office are very helpful so give them a call if you have a problem, or drop in to their reception. I suspect they are also rather long suffering because I have witnessed some very ill-mannered residents - not you of course - being unacceptably demanding and unappreciative (two characteristics which you would think would be mutually exclusive, but in fact seem to be Siamese twins with some of our neighbours.)

I am not going to try to list all their services or contact details. I wouldn't be able to keep it up to date. But the Estate Office produce a fat monthly booklet called "Barbicanews" which explains everything. (If I could just be demanding and unappreciative for a moment, please change that to "Barbican News". I really hate these merged names which can't make sense when spoken.)

The Barbican Estate Office currently has a system where each block has a specific House Officer allocated to it, and this is the person you should contact for specific issues and day-to-day problems.
