The different types of flats in Shakespeare Tower

Regular Flats

There are 3 flats to each level. Each flat makes up one side of the triangle. The flats are all of similar size. The flats are similar in general character and amenity to the flats in Cromwell and Lauderdale Towers but with a slightly different internal layout providing three rather than four bedrooms, with the result that the living room and the three bedrooms are all a bit more spacious than in the other towers. They are all long. There is a large living room at one end, from which a corridor runs to the other end. Bedrooms are on the window side of the corridor; the kitchen, bathroom and a shower room, are on the shorter lift lobby side of the corridor. (The 10th 20th and 30th floors are slightly different. Instead of the shower room there is only a separate WC.) A balcony runs right round. The living room opens on to it. The three penthouse apartments have 4 or 5 bedrooms. 2 or 3 bathrooms, shower rooms, roof patios and glazed conservatory areas.

Summary of flat layouts.

East-facing. Type 8B – Living /dining room, 3 bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom with WC, shower room with WC, utility room, entrance other end from living room. Type 9B on 10th 20th and 30th floors are identical to 1B but with no shower room.

North-facing. Type 8C – Living room, dining room, 3 bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom with WC, shower room with WC, utility room, entrance in the middle of the flat. Type 9C on 10th 20th and 30th floors are identical to 1C but with no shower room.

Penthouse Flats

There are three penthouse maisonettes. Penthouse 392 is on three floors. On the lowest level it has a living room, a dining room, two bedrooms, the kitchen, bathroom and a shower-room. On the middle level, there are three more bedrooms, another bathroom and another shower-room, and a very large triangular patio. On the top floor, there is a conservatory and a roof terrace (and hopefully a parachute in case of March gales). (Type 4B). Penthouse 393 is even bigger, with a much larger terrace for landing the owner’s Harrier jet. (Type 4C). The owner or penthouse 411 can hardly hold his head up in the other owners’ company. His is only on two floors and he loses a bedroom, the dining area and a shower room. (Type 4C).
