A corridor runs through the block, and the entrances to the flats are off the corridor. So all flats back onto the corridor and only have windows on one side, facing either north towards the YMCA or south over Beech Garden. The corridor is not central. So north facing flats are rather deeper than south facing flats. The south facing flats are nearly all one-bedroom flats. They have a living room and a bedroom at the front, and the kitchen and bathroom at the back near the entrance. (Type F2c). Flats on the western corner have an extra bedroom, taking advantage of the additional window space. (Type F3c).
On the northern side, the flats are maisonettes on 2 levels. At the entrance level, you come into a hall with a bathroom off the hall and a bedroom at the window end. Immediately inside the entrance, is a staircase up to the living area, which has windows at both ends. There’s a kitchen in the middle, and a dining room. (Types M2a and M2b (which is infinitesimally smaller)).
At the eastern end of each floor, the corridor ends at the entrance of maisonettes, which run through the full width of the building. At the entrance level, you enter a hall. You then turn one way into a bedroom, and the other way (passing the bathroom) to reach a second bedroom. Up the stairs from the hall, there is a living room at the front, a kitchen in the middle, and a dining room. (Type M3d and M3e (which has slightly different stairs).
On the fifth floor, there are penthouse maisonettes on 3 levels. They are just like the maisonettes on the lower floors, except that there is an additional one room penthouse studio or bedroom on a third level. (Types M3a M3b and M4a).
